Jennifer Connelly is an American actress who began her career as a child model. She appeared in magazine and television commercials before she made her film debut in the 1984 fantasy film Once Upon a Time in America. Connelly continued to model and act, starring in such films as the 1986 Labrynth and the 1989 film The Rocketeer. She gained critical acclaim for her role in the 2001 film A Beautiful Mind, for which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Connelly has since starred in a number of successful films, including the 2003 fantasy film Hulk, the 2004 remake of The Day After Tomorrow, and the 2009 science fiction film Avatar. She has also appeared in a number of independent films, such as the 2007 drama Reservation Road. In 2014, Connelly reprised her role as Betty Ross in the Marvel Studios film The Incredible Hulk.

Connelly is married to actor Paul Bettany, with whom she has two children.

Time magazine named her one of the „100 Most Beautiful People in the World“ in 2002.

Connelly was born in Cairo, New York in 1970, the daughter of Ilene, a dealer of antiques, and Gerard Connelly, a clothing manufacturer. Her father had Irish and Norwegian ancestry, and her mother was from an Egyptian Coptic family. Connelly has an older sister and brother, Karen and Robert, and was raised in Brooklyn Heights, just across the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan. At the age of ten, she began modeling for magazine advertisements. In 1983, Connelly enrolled in Yale University, where she studied English literature. She transferred to Stanford University the following year, but left after a semester to pursue her acting career.
